Submit all four required values, then review the status returned for the matching voter. If the form does not match, first check spelling, date format, the numeric house value, and the ZIP tied to the registration. A person who moved or changed a name may need to update the record instead of trying repeated variants. The county tool does not replace a record request when certified information or voter history is needed.
Inglewood Voter Lookup Boundaries
The county verification screen is not a browse-by-name directory of Inglewood residents. It requires a last name, birth date, house number, and ZIP because its purpose is to confirm a record for the person whose identifying details are supplied. Research did not use a real resident's personal data to produce a sample match, so the safe claim is narrow: the application verifies status. It should not be described as displaying a public voter profile.
California also offers My Voter Status as a separate statewide self-service route. Official state material says a successful check may show registration status, registered name, county, party, polling place or vote center, ballot status, and voter-information-guide preferences. That tool uses first and last name, date of birth, and a California driver license or ID number or the last four digits of a Social Security number. Those credentials do not make the underlying numbers public.
Can someone search every Inglewood voter by name? No. The public-facing status tools are built for self-service matching. Individual information and larger voter files follow request, fee, qualification, confidentiality, and use rules.
Note: A failed status match is not proof that no record exists; changed names, moved addresses, and input format can affect the result.
Fields in Inglewood Voter Records
A California voter record can hold far more than a self-check displays. The statewide definition includes identity, registration, district, contact, and participation fields used to run elections. Los Angeles County's layout adds local administration codes. Availability depends on the requester, stated use, and whether the voter is confidential. A field existing in the database does not mean it will appear in a released Inglewood record.

Voter history records participation, not choices. Los Angeles County codes include V for voted at polls, A for vote by mail, and N or a blank for did not vote. No released history reveals how an Inglewood voter marked a ballot. That distinction protects the secret ballot while allowing approved users to study turnout.
Confidential California Voter Data
The Los Angeles County disclosure notice cites Government Code section 6254.4 and Elections Code section 2194. It treats a voter's home address, telephone number, email address, precinct number, other Secretary of State registration numbers, and prior registration information on the registration card as confidential except through the access that section 2194 permits. The modern California Public Records Act is codified at Government Code section 7920.000 and following, but that general access law does not override specific voter confidentiality rules.
Confidential by California law. Social Security numbers, driver license or state ID numbers, signature images except when authorized, full birth dates except where law allows, protected addresses, and confidential-voter contact details are withheld under Elections Code sections 2194, 2166, and related rules.
This split explains why a county search can confirm status without exposing a residence file. It also explains why the California Secretary of State warns that some confidential voters are not included in file releases. General access questions about other government records belong with the Inglewood public records process, while election information follows its own statutes and application terms.
Request Inglewood Voter Information
The LA County Election Information Section handles searches, voter history, and certified voter documents for Inglewood. County access is available in person at the Norwalk office or by mail. A mailed request must state the requester's name, address, birth date, signature, and telephone number. Add a self-addressed stamped envelope. Send it to Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, Election Information Section, 12400 Imperial Highway, Room 2013, Norwalk, CA 90650. Describe whether the request seeks a search, history, or certified copy so staff can apply the right fee and access test.

California Voter Files Include Inglewood
The California Secretary of State voter file request is the statewide route. Applicants must identify a qualifying election, scholarly, journalistic, political, governmental, or other permitted purpose and explain the exact intended use. A request made for another candidate, committee, or organization needs that beneficiary's details and any required support. The application also calls for the applicant's identity and contact information, an ID copy, fee, and a certification under penalty of perjury.

- Attach a copy of a current driver license or state ID, sign the security and use certifications, and calculate the fee.
- Mail or hand-deliver the package to Secretary of State, 1500 11th Street, 5th Floor, Sacramento, CA 95814. Email and fax submissions are not accepted.
- Allow 7 to 14 business days after receipt. Approved files arrive on an encrypted DVD.
The statewide price is $15 per thousand records, capped at $100. A request for specific voters costs $30 per record, capped at $100 and limited to ten specific records per application. Los Angeles County has a separate purchase schedule. Its countywide voter data text file costs $146. Other voter, precinct, or election files cost $54 for the first file and $39 for each added file. Those products still require purpose, identity, and security acknowledgments, and confidential voters remain withheld.
VoteCal Maintains Inglewood Voter Rolls
VoteCal is California's central voter database. Los Angeles County synchronizes local changes with that system and uses sources such as DMV address updates, National Change of Address data, postal returns, death records, court information, and notices from other jurisdictions. A move can update an address, direct a record to another county, or trigger an address-confirmation mailing. These checks explain why status can change even when a person has not used the self-service portal recently.
An active Inglewood record has current information and receives election mail, including the vote-by-mail ballot sent under state law. An inactive record means official data or returned mail suggests the address may be stale. The voter keeps the legal right to vote but may need to confirm residence, and election mail is paused until the address is verified or updated. A cancelled record is outside the election mailing and voting process due to verified death, a confirmed move to another county, or another verified reason. Re-registration is needed to become active again.
The countywide scale is large. A VoteCal report dated May 18, 2026 listed 5,898,798 registered voters in Los Angeles County and 65,946 in Inglewood. That total included 42,739 Democratic, 4,687 Republican, 13,618 No Party Preference, and smaller totals across other listed preferences. City voters still sit inside one county and statewide maintenance chain.
Note: Inactive does not mean ineligible; California law preserves the right to vote while residence information is confirmed.
Protected Inglewood Voter Addresses
Safe at Home is California's confidential address program. It provides a substitute mailing address as part of a safety plan. Participants are warned not to use the normal online voter registration or re-registration form. They should contact Safe at Home at (877) 322-5227 so registration can be handled without exposing the protected residence.
Elections Code section 2166 also allows court-ordered confidential voter status. The protection can cover the residence address, phone number, and email shown on affidavits, lists, rosters, and indexes. Election officials exclude confidential voters from those voter rolls, use a valid mailing address supplied by the voter, and generally treat the voter as vote by mail unless notified otherwise. Elections Code section 2166.9 sets a narrow process for certain confidential elected-official or candidate contact data sought for a bona fide journalistic or governmental purpose, as determined by the Secretary of State.
A substitute address should never be treated as evidence that the voter lives at that mailing location. Protected fields are deliberately separated from records released to approved users.
Search Historical Inglewood Voter Registers
Older voter sources can answer questions that a current status form cannot. California registration affidavits begin in 1895 and may include precinct, name, address, occupation, nativity, height, party affiliation, naturalization facts, and voting information. Printed Great Registers were compiled from those affidavits. Later affidavits took their place. Exact Inglewood-only poll-book holdings were not confirmed, so researchers should not assume that every county volume has a city index.

An especially useful Inglewood method is address-first searching. At a library that offers Ancestry Library Edition, the digitized California Voter Registrations collection covers 1900 through 1968. Put an old street address in quotation marks in the keyword field, then compare each matching name with city directories, newspapers, deed chains, and probate files. This is a research tactic, not a way around current confidentiality law.
Use Inglewood Voter Data Lawfully
County and state voter data is not an open commercial list. The applicant must use it only for the approved purpose, protect the file, and honor the certifications made on the request. Passing data to an unapproved recipient, using confidential details, or repurposing the file outside the stated basis can violate Elections Code section 2194, Secretary of State rules, and the signed application. Ballot choices are never available.
Keep voter research lawful. Never use an Inglewood voter record to stalk, threaten, harass, or expose someone. California Penal Code sections 646.9 and 653m address stalking and harassing contacts, while Civil Code section 1708.89 creates civil remedies for doxing.
Check the custodian's current terms before sharing or storing released data. Delete working copies when they are no longer needed, keep encrypted media secure, and do not try to identify a confidential address by joining protected fields with other sources. When the goal is simply to check one's own election status, the county or state self-service tool is the least intrusive route.
